THE MARIPOSA STORY:
Mariposa began in 1980 as a small family business that transformed soft-drink bottles in Mexico into modern glassware. Back then they had no idea that they would eventually become a leader in handmade tableware, embracing the arts of ceramics, aluminum, cutlery, and glass in myriad forms and textures from around the world. They began pursuing several goals: to bring innovative design to a refined, age-old process where little had changed for centuries; to make a local art international - subtle, beautiful, and contemporary - and to celebrate the handmade.  Why bother to keep such crafts alive, in an age when seemingly nothing is made by hand any more? In a word, because they're better. Mariposa's unique collections are a result of the strong and original aesthetic of their designers combined with the superior technique of all of their artisans worldwide. They never take their mastery for granted, for it comes from generations working together to learn a process and an art, growing up amid a handmade way of life.
Often a designer forces craftsmen to find new solutions to new problems. Mariposa management proposes a challenging new piece, and then sees the artists find a way to solve the problems without losing the precision or the warmth of the designer's intent, or the character that springs from the tiniest details.
What keeps a craft fresh is a willingness to remake itself constantly, to be ready to innovate on established techniques, to renew the tradition by using different textures and forms. FAQ's ABOUT CARING FOR MARIPOSA:
Can I cook in my Brillante pieces?
Brillante is not cookware, but serveware. However, pieces may be warmed in the oven up to 325 degrees…and don’t forget that it holds a chill, so it is perfect for outdoor entertaining.
Is the aluminum serveware food safe?
Yes, Brillante exceeds FDA requirements for aluminum serveware.
How can I remove scratches from my platters?
You can revive your Brillante with Simichrome, a wonderful non-abrasive polish available through Mariposa dealers, but if it has been deeply scratched, there is no way to thoroughly buff out these marks. Store your Brillante in its flannel pouch for optimal care.
My Brillante bowl was put in the dishwasher. What can I do?
Unfortunately, dishwashing will permanently damage the finish. Even Simichrome can’t restore the bowl’s original brilliance, so please take care and handwash your Brillante piece (towel-dry immediately).
How long can water stand in the ice bucket?
Standing water may discolor the inside of your ice bucket or any other Brillante item. It’s best to empty these pieces on a periodic basis, and for sure before you go to bed after the party’s over!
